Focchi Group at Fuorisalone in Milan
Milan Design Week, Interni “House In Motion“ exhibition. Open 10am-10pm daily, 16-28 April 2018
Università degli Studi di Milano – Ca’ Granda ex Ospedale Maggiore, Milan
Stanton Williams’ pavilion interprets the Interni exhibition theme House in Motion by giving physical form to the idea of movement through space. Space and movement combine to form a work of choreographic architecture. A spiral pathway is spatially compressed and released as it winds into the centre of the pavilion. Here, at the focal point, the ‘baldacchino’ – a canopy of light – hovers over a horizontal plane that suggests rest and contemplation. The pavilion floats above the ground surface to reinforce its abstract and poetic nature. Interlocking forms define the captured spaces. Blackened steel is used throughout to reinforce the pavilion’s sculptural qualities.
The engineering, manufacturing and installation of the pavilion is by Focchi Group with lighting provided by iGuzzini.
Dance Performance: Study of Body in Space
In a dance and music work inspired by the dynamic ebb and flow of the Pavilion, a solitary dancer challenges his body’s relationship with space and forges new connections and pathways with the architecture around him in a reactive and ever-shifting state.
Performance dates: 16 & 17 April 2018 – times: 6, 7 & 8pm
Duration: 10 minutes
Choreography: Thea Stanton
Dancer: Joe Garbett
Music: Cameron Graham

Re+Build 2017: Renewing the supply chain from site to factory with off-site construction systems
Re+Build is the only platform on the Italian scene for learning new ways of developing businesses in the real estate sector. The key is re-qualifying and exploiting the potentials of manufacturing constructions and of industry 4.0 in a sustainable manner. Professionals and companies in the sector will meet for the fishblow arena, plenary and parallel sessions aimed at disseminating highly specialised educational contents and making confrontations with regards to the values that influence innovation in the field of construction.
Two appointments on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd June at Riva del Garda and Milan so as to present Off-site Construction, a new way to mean the process of production in which the sites of the factory and the yard are looked at as one single “hybrid” environment. In off-site building, some constructive processes that characterise the industrial stage of product processing, first exclusive of the yard are undertaken in the same factories. New technologies for instance robotic automation, a culture of reuse – together with opportunities and concessions for professionals and developers – represent a solution for years of long awaited change for Italian construction.
The terms introduced by Off-site Construction will be addressed on Thursday 22nd June, in the plenary opening where among the prominent figures in the sector, Maurizio Focchi, the owner of Focchi S.p.a and Jacopo Palermo, the general manager of Percassi Immobiliare S.p.a will intervene. Trends that significantly influence the change of course of both the Italian and European industry.

Tall Buildings Urbanism – 6th Iuav International Conference – CityLife Milan
Tuesday April 19th 2016. Focchi sponsor of the 6th Iuav International Conference in the new CityLife development of Milan. Organized by Professor Aldo Norsa, promoted by Iuav University of Venice and the Politecnico of Milan, with the patronage of the Council on Tall Buildings and Hurban Habitat (http://www.ctbuh.org/) and supported by CityLife.
The conference addressed two main issues relating to the design and construction of tall buildings involving academics, designers, builders, town planners and researchers.
Then focus on the ex-novo construction of tall buildings, the flows management, infrastructures to common areas and insigths on existing heritage, with recovery, renovation, retrofit and deconstruction.
While being constructed a few skyscrapers, Italy has accumulated an extraordinary expertise to offer to the world. One among all Allianz Tower by Isozaki-Maffei in CityLife Milan, Italian’s tallest skyscaper, which amezes for its lightness and the technology of a glass architecture that makes the city even brighter, reflected on the façades manufactured and installed by Focchi Group. «Italy is pure inspiration!» has affirmed the great architect Daniel Libeskind called on stage by Professor Aldo Norsa. “Young architects today must have the strength to assert their opinion and move on, thinking of the future, without forgetting the tradition.”
«Culture, identity, authenticity» perhaps express the synthesis of the conference, as pointed out in the opening by John Iorio, founder of J & A Consultants: “ Zigurat. The man in history has always tried to build something high to protect himself or to assert himself. Today more than ever the human scale is the new measure that defines the space”. High or very high that they are “the skyscrapers in Italy,” said Patricia Viel of Citterio & Viel “are always and yet heroes.”
A conference that addressed urgent issues of the sector, comparing with an unusual rhythmic and elegant balance, soul and technicalities, looking at “modern as something of which we are heirs”, as wisely recalled by Maria Antonietta Crippa of Politecnico of Milan.
